Often people experience dental pain due to different reasons, however the most common reason for any tooth ache or dental pain is caused by inflamed gums or irritated nerves in your teeth. Inflamed tissues in the mouth can also contribute to toothache and sore gums. Dental pain can be caused by many different reasons such as, cavities, broken teeth, infected tooth pulp, and bacteria infections.

Because diseases like cavities, gingivitis and periodontitis involve a bacterial infection, that bacteria can be spread to others during kissing, from sharing straws, or when sharing a toothbrush.

Dental pain is a symptom that something is wrong and should be checked by a dentist. The only way to stop the pain permanently is to have the problem corrected. A sever abscess is not only very painful but can also lead to death if left untreated.

One of the most common reasons for a toothache is caused by cavities. When bacteria builds up in the mouth plaque forms around the teeth. The bacteria in the plaque convert the sugars in food to acids that eat away at the protective enamel layer of the tooth If the cavity is left untreated, it will continue to grow and eventually reach the nerve of the tooth causing, in most cases, severe pain.

Gingivitis and periodontitis are two basic types of periodontal disease. Gingivitis is the most common gum disease and is characterized by an inflammation of the gums, or gingiva. When plaque forms on teeth, the adjacent gums become swollen and red and can become extremely painful. Their are several types of Gingivitis and all must be treated to relive pain.

Ordinary Gingivitis - swollen red gums that bleed easily and bad breath. If left untreated the condition can progress.
Drug-induced Gingivitis - a side effect of many drugs.
Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis - an acute infection characterized by tissue death, spontaneous bleeding, rapid pain onset and a bad mouth odor.
Hormone-Influenced Gingivitis - Affects pregnant women, children, and women using oral contraceptives.
Desquamative gingivitis - Typically a result of an allergic reaction or of skin diseases. Peeling gum tissue with a red and painful surface.

Until one can seek dental care, over-the-counter ibuprofen will help relieve dental pain. Motrin Ibuprofen is effective for dental pain because ibuprofen reduces pain caused by inflammation. You may also find that rinsing your mouth with warm salty water may also help..

If your mouth is sensitive to warm or cold in the mouth, try using ice packs on your face for 24 hours and after that warm heat. Typically 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off will also help reduce dental pain. Avoid sugary or crunchy foods when you are experiencing dental pain, as both can cause additional pain.

DO NOT listen to old wives tails and put aspirin on your hurting tooth! It may burn your dental tissue and can cause even more pain.

Seek dental care as soon as possible. Untreated dental issues can lead into even more problems and pain if they are left untreated.

DRUGS belonging to the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) group are used for the treatment of depression and anxiety symptoms. They act by restoring the balance of serotonin, the mood-influencing biochemical that is predominantly found in the brain cells. However, SSRIs, without exception, come with their side-effects which can be severe. The severity of side-effects spurred medical research and led to newer SSRIs, the latest of which is Lexapro (Escitalopram Oxalate).

Known as Cipralex in most west European countries, Lexapro has been demonstrated to be superior over its predecessor SSRI in terms of promptness of action, lower dosage, and more manageable side-effects if taken faithfully as prescribed by the physician. Despite its advantages of dosage and lower side-effects, the most significant benefit of Lexapro is that it acts quicker than the others.

Importance of quick action: Usually, Lexapro begins to show positive effects within 10-to-14 days of the start of treatment (in some cases, it starts within a week). Complete healing does not come about within this time span, but the patient makes enough progress to retain confidence in the medication. This confidence is crucial because depression and anxiety are psycho-somatic illnesses requiring the patient to have faith in the treatment.

Though, as stated above, onset of improvement in the patient’s condition usually happens within 10-14 days of start of Lexapro treatment, it takes four-to-six weeks for the full effect to be seen. Thereafter, under medical advice, the treatment may continue for several weeks more if warranted or is tapered off (never abruptly stopped, to minimize withdrawal symptoms).

Comparison with other SSRIs: In contrast, other SSRIs take longer to act; some take four-to-six weeks. For a reasonable comparison, let’s look at research findings on two sets of patients who didn’t respond by the end of the eighth week of treatment. One set was being administered Lexapro, and the other set Celexa (Citalopram), another SSRI drug. At the end of the 24th week, it was found that 55% of Lexapro patients achieved relief, compared to 51% of Celexa patients.

In other words, 4% of Celexa patients had to be administered Celexa for more than 24 weeks to reach the relief-level that Lexapro patients achieved in 24 weeks. The fact that the Lexapro dosage was half (10-20mg a day) the Celexa dosage (20-40mg a day) is extraneous to the point.

To conclude, though we have compared Lexapro with only one other SSRI, Celexa, it is important to note that it is the immediate predecessor of Lexapro in the SSRI family. The gap between Lexapro and Celexa in terms of speed of only widens as we compare Lexapro with SSRIs older than Celexa.

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the myocardium, the thick muscular layer of the heart wall. It is an uncommon disorder that is usually caused by viral infections such as coxsackie virus, adenovirus, and echovirus. It may also occur during or after various viral, bacterial, or parasitic infections. It can occur in people of all ages and is diagnosed more often in men than in women. Patients with acute myocarditis and chronic myocarditis experience different symptoms. In many cases the cause is not found. ( It is usually caused by a viral infection, particularly adenovirus and enterovirus infections (eg, coxsackievirus), although many infectious organisms commonly seen in infants and children have been implicated. It may present with chest pain, rapid signs of heart failure, or sudden death. It may be associated with dilation (enlargement due to weakness of the heart muscle) or with hypertrophy (overgrowth of the muscle tissue). When myocarditis is severe enough, the pumping action of your heart weakens and your heart is unable to supply the rest of your body with enough oxygen-rich blood.

Myocarditis is defined as inflammatory changes in the heart muscle and is characterized by myocyte necrosis. The signs and symptoms associated with myocardits are varied, and relate either to the actual inflammation of the myocardium, or the weakness of the heart muscle that is secondary to the inflammation. Myocarditis can be difficult to diagnose because it resembles many other diseases. Viral Myocarditis is relatively common and most cases are very mild and therefore never come to the attention of the doctor or are never detected clinically. Many types of virus infection can affect several parts of the body, including the heart muscle. So, myocarditis may develop at the same time as, or just after, a viral throat or chest infection, or when you have flu. The heart muscle may be damaged even more if your body's immune system sends antibodies to try to fight whatever started the inflammation. Certain strains of female mice had a reduced inflammatory process when treated with estradiol. Treatment depends on the underlying cause.

Causes of Myocarditis

The common causes and risk factor include the following:

Infection of the heart muscle by a virus.

Rheumatic fever.

Many viruses, such as those of polio, rubella and influenza.

A rare complication of bacterial infections, including diphtheria, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, and tetanus.

Other infectious organisms, such as rickettsiae and parasites.

Sarcoidosis, and immune diseases (such as systemic lupus, etc.).

A rare side-effect of some medicines.

Acohol, radiation, chemicals (hydrocarbons and arsenic).

Drugs, including doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, emetine, chloroquine (Aralen) and sulfonamides.

Symptoms

Sore throat or diarrhea.

Fatigue.

Heart arrhythmias.

Chest pain.

Headache.

Treatment

Here is list of the methods for treating Myocarditis:

If bacteria are causing the infection, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics.

If you have rapid or irregular heartbeats as a symptom, your doctor may advise hospitalization.

If a blood clot is present in the heart chamber, blood thinning medicine is given as well.

In such cases, medications to stabilize heart function may be necessary. These may include vasodilators, digitalis, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and other drugs. In certain severe types of myocarditis, steroids may be prescribed.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, such as enalapril (Vasotec), captopril (Capoten), lisinopril (Zestril, Prinivil) and ramipril (Altace).

Oxygen.

Digoxin (Digitek, Lanoxin), which increases the strength of your heart muscle contractions and tends to slow the heartbeat.

Steroid medication if the cause is giant-cell myocarditis.

TWO anti-depressant drugs, Lexapro (Escitalopram) and Celexa (Citalopram), are close 'relatives' in terms of their chemistry and a comparison between their respective efficacies would therefore be interesting. Lexapro is the newest member of the SSRI family of drugs and Celexa could be considered its precursor.

The difference between Lexapro and Celexa is essentially a difference in their chemical composition. Celexa is a combination of two equal parts known as S- and R-enantiomer. However, R-enantiomer was found to be of no use in the anti-depressant role of Celexa, it was removed from the combination, leaving only the S-enantiomer/S-isomer. This split led to the formulation of Lexapro, the newest member of the SSRI family of drugs.

The advantages of Lexapro over Celexa are as follows:

Lexapro is more potent. The minimum daily dosage of Lexapro recommended is only 10-20mg compared to 20-40mg of Celexa.
Lexapro’s therapeutic action too is faster (less than two weeks) than Celexa.
Though the healing effect of both the drugs (in their respective dosages) is similar in the initial stages, Lexapro displays relatively better results in the longer term, i.e., after about 24 weeks.
As for safety, both Lexapro and Celexa have been seen to be equally safe and acceptable to the body system. Adverse side-effects from both the drugs were similar in nature and intensity, and they include: insomnia, anorgasmia, constipation, loss of libido, ejaculation problems, diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infection, among others. Withdrawal symptoms too are less with Lexapro than Celexa. Despite the demonstrated superiority of Lexapro, doctors often prescribe Celexa first because of its lower potency, and prescribe Lexapro only if the symptoms of depression or anxiety are severe enough to justify the strong-action Lexapro.
